Waffle On about Gerry Anderson

gerry_anderson_logo.jpg

Welcome to the Gerry Anderson special. On this episode Meds and Kell go through Andersons back catalogue giving a synopsis and the occasional theme tune to each programme that Anderson produced. Many thanks go to Rob Scalise who provided us with a remix of our Waffle On theme theme and provided us with a comment  (oh and Derek Meddings and I just share a surname, we think ). You can find more about Robs musical work at http://startrack.goldenmediastudios.com he’s done some soundtrack work there. Also big thanks go our to Rick Moyer from Take Him With You podcast who kindly threw some coins into the waffle on treasure chest and to Ian Wilson from For Your Ears Only podcast who sent us in a great comment regarding the state of British TV.

One small note we recorded this episode ouside the Waffle On studios and so we have a couple small jumps (you may not even notice but we’re honest here) in the recording thanks goes to the typical British weather and the thunderstorm that happened while recording. Hope you enjoy it and please remember to send your comments in to either this site or our email at waffleonpodcast@googlemail.com

Hello guys. Antony here from the ScutterCast(A Red Dwarf podcast). Just wanted to drop in a comment to let you know that I’ve just discovered your podcast and have listened to this episode and your Red Dwarf one is sat waiting. I know already that I’m going to enjoy working my way through these. This is right up my street!!

Not sure how I came across it. I think it was advertised on the Anomally podcast. And I only found the Anomally podcast through TrekkyGeek’s Appytime podcast (A good friend of mine)

Anyway, name dropping wasn’t my intention. When I’ve got a few episodes listened to, expect an email.

    Cheers Ant!

Just listened to this podcast chaps. Great stuff. With reference to Thunderbirds , I don’t think you mentioned the other crucial member of International Rescue-namely Brains! Without him, none of their adventures would have taken off…literally!

    Cheers

    Rob

Love the cast! I had forgotten about a few of those Gerry Anderson shows (Terrahawks, for example), and I had watched Cpt. Scarlet as a kid. Keep up the good work gents! How about a Star Maiden or even a Rumpole episode? Thanks! Pete aka Bromptonboy from Treksinscifi forum

The theme tune for Fireball XL5 was rather dull. Maybe the one you remember was the end credits song which was a hit for a crooner called Don Spencer (Russell Crowe’s father-in-law).

Just listened to this podcast - they are all very informative.

Two series you overlooked from Gerry Anderson:

    The first series of Torchy The Battery Boy (he wasn’t involved in the second);

Four Feather Falls - a contrast to Gerry Anderson’s later stuff - this was cowboys, rather than spacemen or aquanauts.

The voice of Captain Scarlet was Francis Matthews, who also played Paul Temple on BBC TV in the early 70s.

UFO: This was shown on Saturday early evenings after World Of Sport - ITV disliked it so much that some regions put it out at half-past eleven at night.

Both UFO and Space 1999 can be seen on ITV 4 in the daytime - as can most ITC stuff.

I have my own podcasts at gcast - type in arthurvasey in the search area.

    My surname rhymes with “crazy”.

Other series you may want to scrutinise could include Timeslip and The Tomorrow People, and perhaps Goodnight, Sweetheart.

Looking forward to the Auf Wiedersehen, Pet one.

About to listen to the Fawlty Towers one.

Hi guys. I’ve only just started listening to the Waffle On podcasts and haven’t yet caught up to the most current. I’ve just finished listening to the Patrick McGoohan and Monty Python episodes and very much enjoyed them both! you two have a wonderful rapport and it’s great hearing you talk about the television shows and films you love and hate. Please keep them coming and i’ll do my best to catch up. Cheers! Chad
