Hello guys!! As an American listener I may not always know the shows you talk about, but it's still fun hearing your enthusiasm for them! I had to tell you, while I've never heard Roy Thinnes' name pronounced THINS, it doesn't mean that's wrong. I do know Scott Bakula's name is not Ba-KUU-la, but BAK-u-la, like Dracula!! Speaking of Bakula, if you haven't done a 'Quantum Leap' show yet, I hope you do! Finally, I read in Wikipedia that Roy Thinnes was once being considered to play Capt. Picard! You could have had your Kirk vs. Picard Dream Fight! Take care!!

REALLY great podcast! I love this movie, I just made my husband watch it and he actually liked it even though he can't stand scary movies!:-D
Awesome discussion, love how you go so in depth into the movies, and show that scary movies aren't just "scary movies." :)

It was interesting to listen to you guys waffle on about Children's TV. I think it is easy to criticize old programmes, but I think one has to remember the budgets and technology they had back then. That said when you think that Thunderbirds was massively expensive and the quality superb.

I agree about the general quality of programmes in the 1990's - I actually wrote and co-produced a series from the mid nineties and I could tell you a few stories about the way we were treated by the Tv companies and how much they thought about TV for children, but thats another story!

Good luck with the podcast.

Another great show. i agree about the theme tune, curently used by BBC radio 5's "Fighting Talk". Great tune and good to hear the Streets of San Francisco at the end.

I loved the show when i was a kid but when re-watching them they do not seem as good, perhaps as kell says i need to remember being a kid.

Looking forward to the next one gents.

Hi guys, another great show :) However... I have to pick you up on a couple of points. Brian Clemens did not solely create The Avengers, it was Sydney Newman, Leonard White and a small group of which Clemens was a part. He co-wrote the very first episode, Hot Snow, and obviously went on to become Producer/Showrunner (for want of a better word) and a HUGE creative force on the show.

Secondly, The New Avengers is NOT terrible. It has many excellent episodes that wouldn't be out of place in the old series - and lets not forget that it's TNA which inspired Clemens and Albert Fennell to create The Professionals! :D

Many thanks for putting together this short tribute to Norman. He was my favourite comedian of that era & like loads of others I grew up watching his movies on TV.

You always knew what you were getting with him - good clean fun.

I wrote to him once & was rewarded with an autographed photo.

Keep up the good work !

Heard this one today too. Great and even better with the guest caster.

I learned stuff I did not know.
I did not agree with all of the opinions but hey such is life.
My Doctor was Tm Baker but I can remember back as far as The Giant Robot and Green Death with Pertwee.
I will recommend this to a friend a real Who fan.
I gave up with Sylvester McCoy and felt totally dismayed by the Paul McGann one. I love the new doctors and disagree regarding Rose though the her family focus has been annoying.

Loved it.

Keep it up nlokes.

Only me again.

Finished this podcast today, brilliant! So many memories, I find myself joining in the chat, a little embarrassing as I walk the dog! Great stuff I had not known before and I have read "Fawlty Towers" by Graham McCann, a book I recommend.

Long live "Flowery Twats" and "Farty Towels".

One day a friend saw a bloke doing a "Basil" on his car on the High Street of our home town as we were growing up, he used a traffic cone.

Also, once, slightly drunk two frineds and I created the "Fawlty Towers": a gin and orange, a lemon squash and a scotch and water. The recklessness of youth!

Hi once again, I am rattling my way through the podcasts!

I enjoyed this one. I have seen many of the episodes and have enjoyed listening to many of them recently as audiobooks (while walking the dog!) I learned so much especially regarding the health of the man.

Thank you for the podcasts. a real pleasure.

Hi
that makes two of us listening while dog walking.

Loved the episode, Remembered bits I'd forgotten and learned some new stuff. I'd not realised it was Ray Winstone.

I met Pat roach at a gym, massive bloke and didn't mind me chatting to him.

I agree regarding series 3 and especially four, stories a step too far, let them be. Though as you say what would a remake be like?

I loved the bit where they saw themselves as the Magnificent 7 and Moxey spent all night trying to remember the one everyone forgets, Brad Dexter.

Glad I found the podcast, next up is fawlty Towers, Sybil!!

Never got to watch much kids' TV as a kid - I had outgrown most of the programmes featured in your podcast by the time they were on.

My parents dictated what we could - and couldn't - watch - even during what was supposed to be the childrens' hour!

I was at a boarding school from the age of 10 between around 73 and 77 - we weren't allowed anywhere NEAR television there!

Fab show regarding FT. I had never classed myself as a massive FT fan but I recognised pretty much every ep mentioned. And do love it. I happen to think it is a farce but a dark one. I didn't know that Basil was meant to have been in the Korean war. Certainly explains a lot. His desperate need to stick to class structure. That said this aspect I guess is also of its time. And it is very easy to forget that this show is over 30 years old. Which underlines just how timeless it is. I do agree that it travels far better than The Young Ones (which I loved at the time I may add). Oh and The Next Generation Riker issue - I have to agree....beard+chucky riker = better series. And thankfully Counsellor Troy got to stop doing that strange expression (when she was reading others emotions) as if she was guessing who had farted.

Good podcast, it brought back a lot of memories

Interesting that we all remebmer the music. It was obviously a key feature of the show.

I'm staggered that it ran for nine years. I think I must have enjoyed the original series and then faded out after the cast change occurred ao missed the follow on stuff. I have only vague memories of the horse or example.

I was also interested to note that I'm the only one who remembered the first series, old fart that I am!

Hi lads

Finally got round to listening to the Auf Pet episode (thanks for the mention!)

Great episode although as I have seen the serieses (?) scores of times I did notice a few mistakes, it was Nev who went to the gernans house not Wayne! Seriously though it was a great review and got me wanting to watch the whole lot again (series 2 was always my fav) keep up the good work and if you get time watch Quadrophenia and you will see lots of connections with Auf Pet.

Looking forward to more podcasts soon and don't forget Grange Hill!

Cheets and all the best

I love Auf Wiedersehen Pet, the greatest show I have ever seen. I only discovered recently that Kevin Whately is in fact older than Tim Healy and Jimmy Nail but was actually playing the baby of the trio!!!

I still watch the Thornley Manor based episodes at least once a year. Barry and the Ghost, the epic fight, Oz going shopping etc.

Just listened to this podcast - they are all very informative.

Two series you overlooked from Gerry Anderson:

The first series of Torchy The Battery Boy (he wasn't involved in the second);

Four Feather Falls - a contrast to Gerry Anderson's later stuff - this was cowboys, rather than spacemen or aquanauts.

The voice of Captain Scarlet was Francis Matthews, who also played Paul Temple on BBC TV in the early 70s.

UFO: This was shown on Saturday early evenings after World Of Sport - ITV disliked it so much that some regions put it out at half-past eleven at night.

Both UFO and Space 1999 can be seen on ITV 4 in the daytime - as can most ITC stuff.

I have my own podcasts at gcast - type in arthurvasey in the search area.

My surname rhymes with "crazy".

Other series you may want to scrutinise could include Timeslip and The Tomorrow People, and perhaps Goodnight, Sweetheart.

Looking forward to the Auf Wiedersehen, Pet one.

About to listen to the Fawlty Towers one.

The theme tune for Fireball XL5 was rather dull.
Maybe the one you remember was the end credits song which was a hit for a crooner called Don Spencer (Russell Crowe's father-in-law).

Love the cast! I had forgotten about a few of those Gerry Anderson shows (Terrahawks, for example), and I had watched Cpt. Scarlet as a kid.
Keep up the good work gents! How about a Star Maiden or even a Rumpole episode?
Thanks!

Hello guys. Antony here from the ScutterCast(A Red Dwarf podcast). Just wanted to drop in a comment to let you know that I've just discovered your podcast and have listened to this episode and your Red Dwarf one is sat waiting. I know already that I'm going to enjoy working my way through these. This is right up my street!!

Not sure how I came across it. I think it was advertised on the Anomally podcast. And I only found the Anomally podcast through TrekkyGeek's Appytime podcast (A good friend of mine)

Anyway, name dropping wasn't my intention. When I've got a few episodes listened to, expect an email.

Cheers Ant!

I enjoyed that. If you can make all your podcasts almost exactly 90 minutes long then they'll make the 0610 from New Street to Euston more ... waffly. In a good way!

Your podcast was just the tonic I needed after a long day in work and to thoroughly entertain me on the train journey back home.

I remember all those episodes and you covered all my favourites - there again, as a fan of the Small Crimson one for as long as I can remember (I'm nearly 40) I can't remember any awful one's.

Looking forward to the next one lads.

Cheers, Yan

P.S. Do you guys remember a cartoon called "Marine Boy"?

Guys, awesome listen again. I must also admit to not watching the first series but I think Red Dwarf was a programme you could watch at any time and laugh at the writing and it would stand up today alongside other so called comedy's of today.

Impressed with some of the facts which make you think "aahhh, didn't know that" and great choice of clips, makes you reminisce.

Looking forward to the Monty Python with much excitement.

Cheers,

Hi Meds

Good luck with the podcast, looking forward to hearing it, and learning about some of the British shows you will be taking about. Your test podcast sounded pretty good to me.

Work is coming on with the podcast plans and Mark has agreed to be my regular co-host and every now and again step aside for a guest host who knows more about a certain TV show than we do. We plan on talking about classic old children’s TV shows and also adult shows, now before you start thinking adult lets mop up your filthy mind and state adult is like reviewing the Likely Lads or Dads Army and not something involving several naked people and some unusual clothing.

We are planning on doing a pilot episode in January and then produce the first proper episode in February. Why so late i hear you cry in dismay, well I am in the process of moving house and we all know in the current financial crisis a house chain can go up and down like fiddlers arm so please hang in there.
