Waffle On about Rentaghost

Waffle On about Rentaghost.

250px-Rentaghost.jpg

Rentaghost

Rentaghost was a classic British children’s television comedy show produced and broadcast by the BBC between 6 January 1976 and 11 June 1984. The shows plot centred on the antics of a number of ghosts who worked for a firm called Rentaghost, which rented out the ghosts for various tasks.

Join Meds and kell as they waffle on about this classic TV show, its almost been forgotten except from those kids born in the late sixties to the early seventies. Its a great concept for a show and when you look back at it the word fun comes to mind. Although we do not say it at the beginning we do have comments about Rentaghost and many thanks to Daniel Vieira, Tim Morris and Mike Featherstone.

There is also a competition on this episode, yes good people. If you would like to win a CD called Stargazer (ambient music to chill out and watch the stars go by) by the wonderful Rick Moyer then please answer the question that we ask and send your answer to waffleonpodcast@googlemail.com and you could win a great free cd.

Usual promos are played at the end plus a secret (doh! told you) Easter Egg promo for Anomaly. :)

Enjoy

Waffle On about Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

xmasS32.jpg

Auf Wiedersehen, Pet

On this months episode Meds and Kell talk about the classic comedy drama Auf Wiederdehen, Pet. Created by Franc Roddam and written by the brilliant Dick Clement and Ian La Frenais it ran from 1983 to 1986 and then from 2004 to 2008. Introducing such actors as Tim Healy, Timothy Spall, Kevin Whately, Jimmy Nail, Pat Roach, Christopher Hairbank, Gary Holton and later Noel Clarke to the screens all of these actors have gone to higher things, except Gary, sadly he died during filming of the second series.

The basics of Pet are a group of our of work builders head to Germany to seek work, here we see them get into all kind of situations some good, and many involving the character of Oz brilliantly played by the awesome Jimmy Nail. There was only four series of Auf Wiederdehen, Pet and because of the sad loss of Pat Roach i very much doubt we will see these characters on our television screens again.

Enjoy.

We’d just like to thank Arthur Vasey Robbo1510, Eamon, Dangelus and Crystal who both sent us nice comments over the past months. And a big shout out to Rick Moyer, and Peter Foltz who all contributed to Waffle On, we shall shout you on our next recording.

Apologies for the clicking sounds you may hear during this episode. We recorded this two months ago before i became a dad and we think it was the old battery lead causing the odd click in recording. We have a new lead so all is well. Thanks

Waffle On about Fawlty Towers

fawltyinage.jpg

Fawlty Towers

Join Meds and Kell as they talk about this fabulous British Comedy Fawlty Towers. Written and performed by John Cleese and Connie Booth, Fawlty Towers is now over 34 years old and still going strong. Only two series were made and its a formula that comedians such as Ricky Gervais have taken upon themselves to keep their own comedy fresh. Also starring Andrew Sachs and Prunella Scales the team created a wonderful programme that has never been beaten.

The premise of the show is centred around Basil Fawlty played by Cleese a hotel owner who is dominated by his wife Sybil and has an amazing disregard for anyone who is below what he classes as ‘the best class’. A fantastic comedy that is worth not only hearing about here but must be viewed to get the ultimate pleasure of Cleese and Booths writing.

Waffle On about Gerry Anderson

gerry_anderson_logo.jpg

Welcome to the Gerry Anderson special. On this episode Meds and Kell go through Andersons back catalogue giving a synopsis and the occasional theme tune to each programme that Anderson produced. Many thanks go to Rob Scalise who provided us with a remix of our Waffle On theme theme and provided us with a comment  (oh and Derek Meddings and I just share a surname, we think ). You can find more about Robs musical work at http://startrack.goldenmediastudios.com he’s done some soundtrack work there. Also big thanks go our to Rick Moyer from Take Him With You podcast who kindly threw some coins into the waffle on treasure chest and to Ian Wilson from For Your Ears Only podcast who sent us in a great comment regarding the state of British TV.

One small note we recorded this episode ouside the Waffle On studios and so we have a couple small jumps (you may not even notice but we’re honest here) in the recording thanks goes to the typical British weather and the thunderstorm that happened while recording. Hope you enjoy it and please remember to send your comments in to either this site or our email at waffleonpodcast@googlemail.com

Waffle On about Star Wars, In the Shadows & A Tribute to John Ryan

cap_banner.jpg Star Wars In the Shadows. On this special mini waffle on i talk about a fantastic new audio drama coming out soon called Star wars in The Shadows, it is written, directed and produced by Dany Pépin (37y/o) a French-Canadian born in Quebec, now living in Ottawa, Ontario. SWITS is Dany’s first original story of any type in his second language (English) and only second audio drama project following the surprising adaptation of Karen Traviss’ short story Omega Squad: Targets. Dany was mostly known in Star Wars fandom by his implication in the French community and his Star Wars radio show Star Wars en Direct, both in French (since 2001) and English (2003-2006). SWITS is a classic Star Wars space opera not unlike “A New Hope”. I would describe it as a light fugitive/adventure type of story with some mature theme inserted within. SWITS has obviously been inspired by the Star Wars movies but also its Expanded Universe (EU) like the media giant Shadows of the Empire and The Force Unleashed. There are many small EU references that will appeal to the fans of the genre, but most importantly the participation of Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, Xizor, Guri and Mon Mothma in the actual story plot. head to www.creativeaudioscape.com for more info.

John Ryan.

Cartoonist John Ryan, creator of the Captain Pugwash TV series, has died in hospital in Rye, East Sussex, aged 88. The BBC commissioned the first series in 1957 after spotting potential in Ryan’s books about the tales of Pugwash and his nemesis Cut Throat Jake. His agent, Jane Gregory, said there was “a huge amount of love” for the childish pirate and his shipmates, who included Tom the Cabin Boy and Willy. Captain Horatio Pugwash was created in 1950 while Ryan was an art teacher at Harrow School, shortly after he got married to fellow artist Priscilla. It was published, in the same year, in the first edition of the Eagle comic. A book deal followed, before it was adapted for TV by the BBC in 1957, with black-and-white episodes being made until 1967. Colour episodes were shown on the BBC in a mid-1970s revival. Ms Gregory told BBC News he was “always enthusiastic, always charming”. “A lot of the character of Captain Pugwash was John, which is probably why we loved him as much. We devote this mini waffle on to the memory of John Ryan.

Waffle On about Doctor Who

the_ten_doctors.jpg

On this episode Meds and kell are joined by huge Dr Who fan Phil Hayes. here the trio waffle on about one of the most important British televisions programmes ever mad. Dr Who hit our screens in 1963 and stayed there until 1986. A brief return in 1996 failed to relight its gentle flame. Then in 2005 it hit the screens with a huge bang and has been consistent with its ratings and enthusiasm. On this episode of Waffle on the boys go back to their childhood and recall what Dr Who means to them. Its a long episode notching just under two hours in time but you cant put 46 years of television gold in a one hour podcast. Thanks to Mike Featherstone and Mark Daniels for their contributions and once again thanks to Phil Hayes for joining us on the show.

Waffle On about The State of British TV.

Come and join Meds and Kell as they have a fairly heated discussion on the state of British TV.

British TV (in our opinion) has taken a bit of a dive recently and with cable channels beginning to make decent TV we ask what the hell is the BBC doing, so if you fancy listening to us Waffle On in no structured way then download and listen.

Joining them in their rant is MIke Featherstone, Tim Morris and Phil Hayes who sent in audio comments and Meds reads emails form Peter Coleman, John Sheldon, Aron Gamble, Peter Bodenham, Woody and Di.
